About This Spot

Step inside Big Mike’s Soul Food and you’re immediately wrapped in the gentle hum of a place that feels comfortably familiar—like sitting down at a loved one’s kitchen table where stories, laughter, and the inviting aroma of home-cooked meals mingle effortlessly. This spot in Myrtle Beach isn’t about rush or formality; it welcomes you to slow down, breathe, and savor the warmth of Southern hospitality that’s as hearty as the dishes they serve.

The atmosphere here carries a quiet sense of tradition, where each visit is less about dining out and more about joining a local ritual. The pace allows your senses to tune into the soulful blend of sounds, from the gentle clinking of dishes to friendly exchanges between guests and staff who genuinely seem glad to see you. There’s a familiar rhythm that feels like it could be the backdrop to neighborhood stories shared over plates steaming with comfort.

Big Mike’s food is woven into that atmosphere, with flavors that speak softly but unmistakably of Southern roots and care. Dishes arrive with generous portions and a sense of mindful craft—places where peach cobbler radiates warmth, collard greens carry a subtle earthiness, and fried pork chops offer a crispy, tender bite that isn’t rushed. Whether it’s a seafood platter that lands with a satisfying variety or a glass of sweet tea that cuts through the day’s heat, each element feels part of a shared experience meant to nourish more than just hunger.

Lunch here often turns into a relaxed affair, as familiar faces gather around tables piled with hushpuppies, chicken and waffles, and sides that make you wish you had room for more. It’s a spot where generous servings meet thoughtful touches—like beignets dusted with just enough sweetness or the nostalgic tang of Kool-Aid—inviting you to stay a little longer or take a warm piece of the meal to go.

Big Mike’s is a place where southern comfort food lives beyond the plate—it’s reflected in the kind smiles from the kitchen to the dining room and the ease with which strangers might swap recommendations over a shared meal. It's less about grand gestures and more about the steady joy of good food and good company in a welcoming, unpretentious setting.

I come to the area once a year for work and definitely stopping by Big Mike’s each time. Never disappoints! Feels like I’m at Big Mama and PaPa house. Excellent food and service at a very good price! You can get a full course meal for under $30

I ordered a fish plate with 3 sides. The food was great but for the price the 2 pieces of fish should have been the whole piece not cut lengthwise. It was good just not worth the price. My party also got the chicken bog which was a little dry and full of bones, some whole some cooked until they were powdered, very unpleasant on the palate. My party also got the fried chicken which was a hit!! The best thing I got from here was the sweet tea and the croissant beignets, OMG so delicious. Service was great, food was good and I would try it again with a different entree.

Visiting South Carolina for tbe first time and had the pleasure of trying Big Mike's for soul food. We were initially hesitant because we saw some mixed reviews but the place did not disappoint. I had the smothered turkey wing with collards greens, candied yam and mac and cheese. It was really good. The mac and cheese is baked. The turkey wings were tender and full of flavor. I tried the greens and cabbage, both were good. I preferred the cabbage. They also have mustard greens and field peas. The Arnold Palmer, Kool-aid and peach cobbler were excellent Overall it was a good experience and the prices were very reasonable (about $15 for meat and 3 sides). I would definitely eat here again.

Great spot for lunch if you enjoy a real southern style flavorful meal. Our server was excellent and helpful. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The quality was topshelf and the quantity required me to take half my meal with me. I had the fish sandwich with greens on the side. Got a peach cobbler to go and it was warm and delicious. If in the area or even if you are not, make your way to Big Mike's!

I got take out here, so I was only able to get a quick glance at their menu. There wasn't much parking, but they have an additional lot. It was a Monday, so I got a side of ribs $6.50. I also ordered $23.50 shrimp boil and $11.75 Little Mike's. I chose fried porkchop, and it came with cornbread and two sides: mac n cheese and rice&gravy. I think the best thing was the shrimp boil. There was plenty of shrimp (but you have to peel them) and potatoes. I like corn, so I wish they gave more of that too. Instead of fried porkchop, maybe fried chicken would have been better. The ribs were ok. The mac n cheese was actually not bad. Service was good. They gave me utensils and hot sauce packets.

Depending on when you get there you might not find a seat but it's well worth the wait. The is food tastes like Moms' cooked it. The portions are very filling. And it comes to the table hot with steam. I got the I-tis, time for a nap!

If you want southern comfort food this is the place. Everything was excellent. Fried chicken was great. What a joy to get light breading for a change. I’ve had gizzards on previous visits and also very good. I’m not a big chicken liver fan but I thought my wife’s was quite tasty. The sides were best I’ve had this side of my Mother-in-law’s Kitchen. We’ve been to Mike’s a couple of times now and look forward to our next visit.

Everything at Big Mike’s Soul Food was absolutely delicious! I was especially excited to try the chicken bog, and it did not disappoint — seasoned to perfection, so good that even the bones almost tasted like food. The chicken was juicy, and the chicken and waffles were incredible …the waffles were so sweet they didn’t even need syrup. The service was just as impressive: friendly, attentive, and always checking in to see if I needed anything. True Southern hospitality, amazing food, and even better people. Big Mike’s is a must-try!
